Exodus.
Chapter 4.
Moses answered, “But, behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, Yahweh has not appeared to you.’”
Yahweh said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.”
He said, “Throw it on the ground.” He threw it on the ground, and it became a snake; and Moses ran away from it.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand, and take it by the tail.” He stretched out his hand, and took hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand.
“This is so that they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”
Yahweh said furthermore to him, “Now put your hand inside your cloak.” He put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow.
He said, “Put your hand inside your cloak again.” He put his hand inside his cloak again, and when he took it out of his cloak, behold, it had turned again as his other flesh.
“It will happen, if they will not believe you or listen to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
It will happen, if they will not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, that you shall take of the water of the river, and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take out of the river will become blood on the dry land.”
Moses said to Yahweh, “O Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before now, nor since you have spoken to your servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.”
Yahweh said to him, “Who made mans mouth? Or who makes one mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Isnt it I, Yahweh?
Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall speak.”
Moses said, “Oh, Lord, please send someone else.”
Yahwehs anger burned against Moses, and he said, “What about Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Also, behold, he is coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.
You shall speak to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do.
He will be your spokesman to the people. It will happen that he will be to you a mouth, and you will be to him as God.
You shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.”
Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.” Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.”
Yahweh said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return into Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.”
Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. Moses took Gods rod in his hand.
Yahweh said to Moses, “When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go.
You shall tell Pharaoh, Yahweh says, Israel is my son, my firstborn,
and I have said to you, “Let my son go, that he may serve me;” and you have refused to let him go. Behold, I will kill your firstborn son.’”
On the way at a lodging place, Yahweh met Moses and wanted to kill him.
Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet; and she said, “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me.”
So he let him alone. Then she said, “You are a bridegroom of blood,” because of the circumcision.
Yahweh said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” He went, and met him on Gods mountain, and kissed him.
Moses told Aaron all Yahwehs words with which he had sent him, and all the signs with which he had instructed him.
Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel.
Aaron spoke all the words which Yahweh had spoken to Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
The people believed, and when they heard that Yahweh had visited the children of Israel, and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

Exodus.
Chapter 10.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these my signs among them;
and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your sons son, what things I have done to Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know that I am Yahweh.”
Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, “This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Or else, if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country,
and they shall cover the surface of the earth, so that one wont be able to see the earth. They shall eat the residue of that which has escaped, which remains to you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which grows for you out of the field.
Your houses shall be filled, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your fathers fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’” He turned, and went out from Pharaoh.
Pharaohs servants said to him, “How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve Yahweh, their God. Dont you yet know that Egypt is destroyed?”
Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve Yahweh your God; but who are those who will go?”
Moses said, “We will go with our young and with our old. We will go with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds; for we must hold a feast to Yahweh.”
He said to them, “Yahweh be with you if I let you go with your little ones! See, evil is clearly before your faces.
Not so! Go now you who are men, and serve Yahweh; for that is what you desire!” Then they were driven out from Pharaohs presence.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail has left.”
Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and Yahweh brought an east wind on the land all that day, and all night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
The locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt. They were very grievous. Before them there were no such locusts as they, nor will there ever be again.
For they covered the surface of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened, and they ate every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left. There remained nothing green, either tree or herb of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and he said, “I have sinned against Yahweh your God, and against you.
Now therefore please forgive my sin again, and pray to Yahweh your God, that he may also take away from me this death.”
Moses went out from Pharaoh, and prayed to Yahweh.
Yahweh sent an exceedingly strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea. There remained not one locust in all the borders of Egypt.
But Yahweh hardened Pharaohs heart, and he didnt let the children of Israel go.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.”
Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.
They didnt see one another, and nobody rose from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
Pharaoh called to Moses, and said, “Go, serve Yahweh. Only let your flocks and your herds stay behind. Let your little ones also go with you.”
Moses said, “You must also give into our hand sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to Yahweh our God.
Our livestock also shall go with us. Not a hoof shall be left behind, for of it we must take to serve Yahweh our God; and we dont know with what we must serve Yahweh, until we come there.”
But Yahweh hardened Pharaohs heart, and he wouldnt let them go.
Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me! Be careful to see my face no more; for in the day you see my face you shall die!”
Moses said, “You have spoken well. I will see your face again no more.”

Exodus.
Chapter 24.
He said to Moses, “Come up to Yahweh, you, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship from a distance.
Moses alone shall come near to Yahweh, but they shall not come near. The people shall not go up with him.”
Moses came and told the people all Yahwehs words, and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, “All the words which Yahweh has spoken will we do.”
Moses wrote all Yahwehs words, then rose up early in the morning and built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.
He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to Yahweh.
Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.
He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “We will do all that Yahweh has said, and be obedient.”
Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Yahweh has made with you concerning all these words.”
Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up.
They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was like a paved work of sapphire stone, like the skies for clearness.
He didnt lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Israel. They saw God, and ate and drank.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them.”
Moses rose up with Joshua, his servant, and Moses went up onto Gods Mountain.
He said to the elders, “Wait here for us, until we come again to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever is involved in a dispute can go to them.”
Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.
Yahwehs glory settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. The seventh day he called to Moses out of the middle of the cloud.
The appearance of Yahwehs glory was like devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.
Moses entered into the middle of the cloud, and went up on the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 5.
Moses called to all Israel, and said to them, “Hear, Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears today, that you may learn them, and observe to do them.”
Yahweh our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
Yahweh didnt make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive today.
Yahweh spoke with you face to face on the mountain out of the middle of the fire,
(I stood between Yahweh and you at that time, to show you Yahwehs word; for you were afraid because of the fire, and didnt go up onto the mountain) saying,
“I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
“You shall have no other gods before me.
“You shall not make a carved image for yourself—any likeness of what is in heaven above, or what is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me
and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
“You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God; for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.
“Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as Yahweh your God commanded you.
You shall labor six days, and do all your work;
but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God, in which you shall not do any work—neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates; that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.
You shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm. Therefore Yahweh your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
“Honor your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God commanded you, that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land which Yahweh your God gives you.
“You shall not murder.
“You shall not commit adultery.
“You shall not steal.
“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
“You shall not covet your neighbors wife. Neither shall you desire your neighbors house, his field, or his male servant, or his female servant, his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbors.”
Yahweh spoke these words to all your assembly on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice. He added no more. He wrote them on two stone tablets, and gave them to me.
When you heard the voice out of the middle of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
and you said, “Behold, Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the middle of the fire. We have seen today that God does speak with man, and he lives.
Now therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us. If we hear Yahweh our Gods voice any more, then we shall die.
For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the middle of the fire, as we have, and lived?
Go near, and hear all that Yahweh our God shall say, and tell us all that Yahweh our God tells you; and we will hear it, and do it.”
Yahweh heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me; and Yahweh said to me, “I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have well said all that they have spoken.
Oh that there were such a heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!
“Go tell them, Return to your tents.
But as for you, stand here by me, and I will tell you all the commandments, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.”
You shall observe to do therefore as Yahweh your God has commanded you. You shall not turn away to the right hand or to the left.
You shall walk in all the way which Yahweh your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 6.
Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh your God commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land that you go over to possess;
that you might fear Yahweh your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you—you, your son, and your sons son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged.
Hear therefore, Israel, and observe to do it, that it may be well with you, and that you may increase mightily, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has promised to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is one.
You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.
These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart;
and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.
You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.
You shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates.
It shall be, when Yahweh your God brings you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and goodly cities which you didnt build,
and houses full of all good things which you didnt fill, and cisterns dug out which you didnt dig, vineyards and olive trees which you didnt plant, and you shall eat and be full;
then beware lest you forget Yahweh, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
You shall fear Yahweh your God; and you shall serve him, and shall swear by his name.
You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are around you,
for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God, lest the anger of Yahweh your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.
You shall not tempt Yahweh your God, as you tempted him in Massah.
You shall diligently keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has commanded you.
You shall do that which is right and good in Yahwehs sight, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which Yahweh swore to your fathers,
to thrust out all your enemies from before you, as Yahweh has spoken.
When your son asks you in time to come, saying, “What do the testimonies, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh our God has commanded you mean?”
then you shall tell your son, “We were Pharaohs slaves in Egypt. Yahweh brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand;
and Yahweh showed great and awesome signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes;
and he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore to our fathers.
Yahweh commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Yahweh our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are today.
It shall be righteousness to us, if we observe to do all these commandments before Yahweh our God, as he has commanded us.”

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 7.
When Yahweh your God brings you into the land where you go to possess it, and casts out many nations before you—the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite—seven nations greater and mightier than you;
and when Yahweh your God delivers them up before you, and you strike them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them.
You shall not make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, nor shall you take his daughter for your son.
For that would turn away your sons from following me, that they may serve other gods. So Yahwehs anger would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.
But you shall deal with them like this: you shall break down their altars, dash their pillars in pieces, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their engraved images with fire.
For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God. Yahweh your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.
Yahweh didnt set his love on you nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples;
but because Yahweh loves you, and because he desires to keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, Yahweh has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Know therefore that Yahweh your God himself is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness to a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commandments,
and repays those who hate him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack to him who hates him. He will repay him to his face.
You shall therefore keep the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances which I command you today, to do them.
It shall happen, because you listen to these ordinances and keep and do them, that Yahweh your God will keep with you the covenant and the loving kindness which he swore to your fathers.
He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your livestock and the young of your flock, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you.
You will be blessed above all peoples. There wont be male or female barren among you, or among your livestock.
Yahweh will take away from you all sickness; and he will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you know, on you, but will lay them on all those who hate you.
You shall consume all the peoples whom Yahweh your God shall deliver to you. Your eye shall not pity them. You shall not serve their gods; for that would be a snare to you.
If you shall say in your heart, “These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?”
you shall not be afraid of them. You shall remember well what Yahweh your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:
the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which Yahweh your God brought you out. So shall Yahweh your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
Moreover Yahweh your God will send the hornet among them, until those who are left, and hide themselves, perish from before you.
You shall not be scared of them; for Yahweh your God is among you, a great and awesome God.
Yahweh your God will cast out those nations before you little by little. You may not consume them at once, lest the animals of the field increase on you.
But Yahweh your God will deliver them up before you, and will confuse them with a great confusion, until they are destroyed.
He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name perish from under the sky. No one will be able to stand before you until you have destroyed them.
You shall burn the engraved images of their gods with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to Yahweh your God.
You shall not bring an abomination into your house and become a devoted thing like it. You shall utterly detest it. You shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 8.
You shall observe to do all the commandments which I command you today, that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers.
You shall remember all the way which Yahweh your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.
He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didnt know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahwehs mouth.
Your clothing didnt grow old on you, neither did your foot swell, these forty years.
You shall consider in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so Yahweh your God disciplines you.
You shall keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
For Yahweh your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of springs, and underground water flowing into valleys and hills;
a land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive trees and honey;
a land in which you shall eat bread without scarcity, you shall not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper.
You shall eat and be full, and you shall bless Yahweh your God for the good land which he has given you.
Beware lest you forget Yahweh your God, in not keeping his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command you today;
lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built fine houses and lived in them;
and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;
then your heart might be lifted up, and you forget Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;
who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with venomous snakes and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water; who poured water for you out of the rock of flint;
who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers didnt know, that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end;
and lest you say in your heart, “My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.”
But you shall remember Yahweh your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is today.
It shall be, if you shall forget Yahweh your God, and walk after other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you shall surely perish.
As the nations that Yahweh makes to perish before you, so you shall perish, because you wouldnt listen to Yahweh your Gods voice.

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 9.
Hear, Israel! You are to pass over the Jordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,
a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, “Who can stand before the sons of Anak?”
Know therefore today that Yahweh your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire. He will destroy them and he will bring them down before you. So you shall drive them out and make them perish quickly, as Yahweh has spoken to you.
Dont say in your heart, after Yahweh your God has thrust them out from before you, “For my righteousness Yahweh has brought me in to possess this land;” because Yahweh drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations.
Not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Know therefore that Yahweh your God doesnt give you this good land to possess for your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.
Remember, and dont forget, how you provoked Yahweh your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you left the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against Yahweh.
Also in Horeb you provoked Yahweh to wrath, and Yahweh was angry with you to destroy you.
When I had gone up onto the mountain to receive the stone tablets, even the tablets of the covenant which Yahweh made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.
Yahweh delivered to me the two stone tablets written with Gods finger. On them were all the words which Yahweh spoke with you on the mountain out of the middle of the fire in the day of the assembly.
It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights that Yahweh gave me the two stone tablets, even the tablets of the covenant.
Yahweh said to me, “Arise, get down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned away from the way which I commanded them. They have made a molten image for themselves!”
Furthermore Yahweh spoke to me, saying, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
Leave me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.”
So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire. The two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.
I looked, and behold, you had sinned against Yahweh your God. You had made yourselves a molded calf. You had quickly turned away from the way which Yahweh had commanded you.
I took hold of the two tablets, and threw them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.
I fell down before Yahweh, as at the first, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in Yahwehs sight, to provoke him to anger.
For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which Yahweh was angry against you to destroy you. But Yahweh listened to me that time also.
Yahweh was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.
I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire, and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. I threw its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain.
At Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked Yahweh to wrath.
When Yahweh sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, “Go up and possess the land which I have given you,” you rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh your God, and you didnt believe him or listen to his voice.
You have been rebellious against Yahweh from the day that I knew you.
So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Yahweh had said he would destroy you.
I prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Lord Yahweh, dont destroy your people and your inheritance that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Dont look at the stubbornness of this people, nor at their wickedness, nor at their sin,
lest the land you brought us out from say, Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.
Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.”

Chapter 10.
At that time Yahweh said to me, “Cut two stone tablets like the first, and come up to me onto the mountain, and make an ark of wood.
I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke, and you shall put them in the ark.”
So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two stone tablets like the first, and went up onto the mountain, having the two tablets in my hand.
He wrote on the tablets, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which Yahweh spoke to you on the mountain out of the middle of the fire in the day of the assembly; and Yahweh gave them to me.
I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are as Yahweh commanded me.
(The children of Israel traveled from Beeroth Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priests office in his place.
From there they traveled to Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water.
At that time Yahweh set apart the tribe of Levi to bear the ark of Yahwehs covenant, to stand before Yahweh to minister to him, and to bless in his name, to this day.
Therefore Levi has no portion nor inheritance with his brothers; Yahweh is his inheritance, according as Yahweh your God spoke to him.)
I stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights; and Yahweh listened to me that time also. Yahweh would not destroy you.
Yahweh said to me, “Arise, take your journey before the people; and they shall go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give to them.”
Now, Israel, what does Yahweh your God require of you, but to fear Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, and to serve Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
to keep Yahwehs commandments and statutes, which I command you today for your good?
Behold, to Yahweh your God belongs heaven, the heaven of heavens, and the earth, with all that is therein.
Only Yahweh had a delight in your fathers to love them, and he chose their offspring after them, even you above all peoples, as it is today.
Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiff-necked.
For Yahweh your God, he is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty, and the awesome, who doesnt respect persons or take bribes.
He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner in giving him food and clothing.
Therefore love the foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.
You shall fear Yahweh your God. You shall serve him. You shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name.
He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.
Your fathers went down into Egypt with seventy persons; and now Yahweh your God has made you as the stars of the sky for multitude.

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 12.
These are the statutes and the ordinances which you shall observe to do in the land which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess all the days that you live on the earth.
You shall surely destroy all the places in which the nations that you shall dispossess served their gods: on the high mountains, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
You shall break down their altars, dash their pillars in pieces, and burn their Asherah poles with fire. You shall cut down the engraved images of their gods. You shall destroy their name out of that place.
You shall not do so to Yahweh your God.
But to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, you shall seek his habitation, and you shall come there.
You shall bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, your vows, your free will offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock there.
There you shall eat before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, you and your households, in which Yahweh your God has blessed you.
You shall not do all the things that we do here today, every man whatever is right in his own eyes;
for you havent yet come to the rest and to the inheritance which Yahweh your God gives you.
But when you go over the Jordan and dwell in the land which Yahweh your God causes you to inherit, and he gives you rest from all your enemies around you, so that you dwell in safety,
then it shall happen that to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow to Yahweh.
You shall rejoice before Yahweh your God—you, and your sons, your daughters, your male servants, your female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you.
Be careful that you dont offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see;
but in the place which Yahweh chooses in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.
Yet you may kill and eat meat within all your gates, after all the desire of your soul, according to Yahweh your Gods blessing which he has given you. The unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle and the deer.
Only you shall not eat the blood. You shall pour it out on the earth like water.
You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain, or of your new wine, or of your oil, or the firstborn of your herd or of your flock, nor any of your vows which you vow, nor your free will offerings, nor the wave offering of your hand;
but you shall eat them before Yahweh your God in the place which Yahweh your God shall choose: you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, and the Levite who is within your gates. You shall rejoice before Yahweh your God in all that you put your hand to.
Be careful that you dont forsake the Levite as long as you live in your land.
When Yahweh your God enlarges your border, as he has promised you, and you say, “I want to eat meat,” because your soul desires to eat meat, you may eat meat, after all the desire of your soul.
If the place which Yahweh your God shall choose to put his name is too far from you, then you shall kill of your herd and of your flock, which Yahweh has given you, as I have commanded you; and you may eat within your gates, after all the desire of your soul.
Even as the gazelle and as the deer is eaten, so you shall eat of it. The unclean and the clean may eat of it alike.
Only be sure that you dont eat the blood; for the blood is the life. You shall not eat the life with the meat.
You shall not eat it. You shall pour it out on the earth like water.
You shall not eat it, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, when you do that which is right in Yahwehs eyes.
Only your holy things which you have, and your vows, you shall take and go to the place which Yahweh shall choose.
You shall offer your burnt offerings, the meat and the blood, on Yahweh your Gods altar. The blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out on Yahweh your Gods altar, and you shall eat the meat.
Observe and hear all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, when you do that which is good and right in Yahweh your Gods eyes.
When Yahweh your God cuts off the nations from before you where you go in to dispossess them, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land,
be careful that you are not ensnared to follow them after they are destroyed from before you, and that you not inquire after their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”
You shall not do so to Yahweh your God; for every abomination to Yahweh, which he hates, they have done to their gods; for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.
Whatever thing I command you, that you shall observe to do. You shall not add to it, nor take away from it.

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 16.
Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to Yahweh your God; for in the month of Abib Yahweh your God brought you out of Egypt by night.
You shall sacrifice the Passover to Yahweh your God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which Yahweh shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.
You shall eat no leavened bread with it. You shall eat unleavened bread with it seven days, even the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste) that you may remember the day when you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life.
No yeast shall be seen with you in all your borders seven days; neither shall any of the meat, which you sacrifice the first day at evening, remain all night until the morning.
You may not sacrifice the Passover within any of your gates which Yahweh your God gives you;
but at the place which Yahweh your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell in, there you shall sacrifice the Passover at evening, at the going down of the sun, at the season that you came out of Egypt.
You shall roast and eat it in the place which Yahweh your God chooses. In the morning you shall return to your tents.
Six days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to Yahweh your God. You shall do no work.
You shall count for yourselves seven weeks. From the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain you shall begin to count seven weeks.
You shall keep the feast of weeks to Yahweh your God with a tribute of a free will offering of your hand, which you shall give according to how Yahweh your God blesses you.
You shall rejoice before Yahweh your God: you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, the Levite who is within your gates, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow who are among you, in the place which Yahweh your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.
You shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt. You shall observe and do these statutes.
You shall keep the feast of booths seven days, after you have gathered in from your threshing floor and from your wine press.
You shall rejoice in your feast, you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates.
You shall keep a feast to Yahweh your God seven days in the place which Yahweh chooses, because Yahweh your God will bless you in all your increase and in all the work of your hands, and you shall be altogether joyful.
Three times in a year all of your males shall appear before Yahweh your God in the place which he chooses: in the feast of unleavened bread, in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of booths. They shall not appear before Yahweh empty.
Every man shall give as he is able, according to Yahweh your Gods blessing which he has given you.
You shall make judges and officers in all your gates, which Yahweh your God gives you, according to your tribes; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.
You shall not pervert justice. You shall not show partiality. You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.
You shall follow that which is altogether just, that you may live and inherit the land which Yahweh your God gives you.
You shall not plant for yourselves an Asherah of any kind of tree beside Yahweh your Gods altar, which you shall make for yourselves.
Neither shall you set yourself up a sacred stone which Yahweh your God hates.

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 18.
The priests and the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—shall have no portion nor inheritance with Israel. They shall eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire and his portion.
They shall have no inheritance among their brothers. Yahweh is their inheritance, as he has spoken to them.
This shall be the priests due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep, that they shall give to the priest: the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the inner parts.
You shall give him the first fruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep.
For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in Yahwehs name, him and his sons forever.
If a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel where he lives, and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which Yahweh shall choose,
then he shall minister in the name of Yahweh his God, as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before Yahweh.
They shall have like portions to eat, in addition to that which comes from the sale of his family possessions.
When you have come into the land which Yahweh your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the abominations of those nations.
There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who tells fortunes, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,
or a charmer, or someone who consults with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. Because of these abominations, Yahweh your God drives them out from before you.
You shall be blameless with Yahweh your God.
For these nations that you shall dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery and to diviners; but as for you, Yahweh your God has not allowed you so to do.
Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from among you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him.
This is according to all that you desired of Yahweh your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, “Let me not hear again Yahweh my Gods voice, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die.”
Yahweh said to me, “They have well said that which they have spoken.
I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you. I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.
It shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.”
You may say in your heart, “How shall we know the word which Yahweh has not spoken?”
When a prophet speaks in Yahwehs name, if the thing doesnt follow, nor happen, that is the thing which Yahweh has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You shall not be afraid of him.

Chapter 26.
It shall be, when you have come in to the land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance, possess it, and dwell in it,
that you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you shall bring in from your land that Yahweh your God gives you. You shall put it in a basket, and shall go to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.
You shall come to the priest who shall be in those days, and tell him, “I profess today to Yahweh your God, that I have come to the land which Yahweh swore to our fathers to give us.”
The priest shall take the basket out of your hand, and set it down before Yahweh your Gods altar.
You shall answer and say before Yahweh your God, “My father was a Syrian ready to perish. He went down into Egypt, and lived there, few in number. There he became a great, mighty, and populous nation.
The Egyptians mistreated us, afflicted us, and imposed hard labor on us.
Then we cried to Yahweh, the God of our fathers. Yahweh heard our voice, and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression.
Yahweh brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, with great terror, with signs, and with wonders;
and he has brought us into this place, and has given us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Now, behold, I have brought the first of the fruit of the ground, which you, Yahweh, have given me.” You shall set it down before Yahweh your God, and worship before Yahweh your God.
You shall rejoice in all the good which Yahweh your God has given to you, and to your house, you, and the Levite, and the foreigner who is among you.
When you have finished tithing all the tithe of your increase in the third year, which is the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the foreigner, to the fatherless, and to the widow, that they may eat within your gates and be filled.
You shall say before Yahweh your God, “I have put away the holy things out of my house, and also have given them to the Levite, to the foreigner, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all your commandment which you have commanded me. I have not transgressed any of your commandments, neither have I forgotten them.
I have not eaten of it in my mourning, neither have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor given of it for the dead. I have listened to Yahweh my Gods voice. I have done according to all that you have commanded me.
Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless your people Israel, and the ground which you have given us, as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.”
Today Yahweh your God commands you to do these statutes and ordinances. You shall therefore keep and do them with all your heart and with all your soul.
You have declared today that Yahweh is your God, and that you would walk in his ways, keep his statutes, his commandments, and his ordinances, and listen to his voice.
Yahweh has declared today that you are a people for his own possession, as he has promised you, and that you should keep all his commandments.
He will make you high above all nations that he has made, in praise, in name, and in honor, and that you may be a holy people to Yahweh your God, as he has spoken.

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 29.
These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
Moses called to all Israel, and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;
the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders.
But Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.
I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not grown old on you, and your sandals have not grown old on your feet.
You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am Yahweh your God.
When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we struck them.
We took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.
Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.
All of you stand today in the presence of Yahweh your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,
your little ones, your wives, and the foreigners who are in the middle of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water,
that you may enter into the covenant of Yahweh your God, and into his oath, which Yahweh your God makes with you today,
that he may establish you today as his people, and that he may be your God, as he spoke to you and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Neither do I make this covenant and this oath with you only,
but with those who stand here with us today before Yahweh our God, and also with those who are not here with us today
(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the middle of the nations through which you passed;
and you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which were among them);
lest there should be among you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison;
and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” to destroy the moist with the dry.
Yahweh will not pardon him, but then Yahwehs anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under the sky.
Yahweh will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this book of the law.
The generation to come—your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land—will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it sick,
that all of its land is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, doesnt produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath.
Even all the nations will say, “Why has Yahweh done this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”
Then men will say, “Because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they didnt know and that he had not given to them.
Therefore Yahwehs anger burned against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book.
Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as it is today.”
The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Deuteronomy.
Chapter 30.
It shall happen, when all these things have come on you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you shall call them to mind among all the nations where Yahweh your God has driven you,
and return to Yahweh your God and obey his voice according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul,
that then Yahweh your God will release you from captivity, have compassion on you, and will return and gather you from all the peoples where Yahweh your God has scattered you.
If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of the heavens, from there Yahweh your God will gather you, and from there he will bring you back.
Yahweh your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you will possess it. He will do you good, and increase your numbers more than your fathers.
Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your offspring, to love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.
Yahweh your God will put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you.
You shall return and obey Yahwehs voice, and do all his commandments which I command you today.
Yahweh your God will make you prosperous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, for good; for Yahweh will again rejoice over you for good, as he rejoiced over your fathers,
if you will obey Yahweh your Gods voice, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, if you turn to Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
For this commandment which I command you today is not too hard for you or too distant.
It is not in heaven, that you should say, “Who will go up for us to heaven, bring it to us, and proclaim it to us, that we may do it?”
Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, “Who will go over the sea for us, bring it to us, and proclaim it to us, that we may do it?”
But the word is very near to you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.
Behold, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and evil.
For I command you today to love Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahweh your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.
But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away and worship other gods, and serve them,
I declare to you today that you will surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you pass over the Jordan to go in to possess it.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your descendants,
to love Yahweh your God, to obey his voice, and to cling to him; for he is your life, and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Joshua.
Chapter 4.
When all the nation had completely crossed over the Jordan, Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,
“Take twelve men out of the people, a man out of every tribe,
and command them, saying, Take from out of the middle of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests feet stood firm, twelve stones, carry them over with you, and lay them down in the place where youll camp tonight.’”
Then Joshua called the twelve men whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, a man out of every tribe.
Joshua said to them, “Cross before the ark of Yahweh your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you pick up a stone and put it on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;
that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in the future, saying, What do you mean by these stones?
then you shall tell them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of Yahwehs covenant. When it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.’”
The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as Yahweh spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel. They carried them over with them to the place where they camped, and laid them down there.
Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.
For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan until everything was finished that Yahweh commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over.
When all the people had completely crossed over, Yahwehs ark crossed over with the priests in the presence of the people.
The children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke to them.
About forty thousand men, ready and armed for war, passed over before Yahweh to battle, to the plains of Jericho.
On that day, Yahweh magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.
Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,
“Command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, that they come up out of the Jordan.”
Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, “Come up out of the Jordan!”
When the priests who bore the ark of Yahwehs covenant had come up out of the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests feet had been lifted up to the dry ground, the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks, as before.
The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.
Joshua set up those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, in Gilgal.
He spoke to the children of Israel, saying, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What do these stones mean?
Then you shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.
For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until you had crossed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had crossed over,
that all the peoples of the earth may know that Yahwehs hand is mighty, and that you may fear Yahweh your God forever.’”

Joshua.
Chapter 23.
After many days, when Yahweh had given rest to Israel from their enemies all around, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years,
Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said to them, “I am old and well advanced in years.
You have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to all these nations because of you; for it is Yahweh your God who has fought for you.
Behold, I have allotted to you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even to the great sea toward the going down of the sun.
Yahweh your God will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight. You shall possess their land, as Yahweh your God spoke to you.
“Therefore be very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that you not turn away from it to the right hand or to the left;
that you not come among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves to them;
but hold fast to Yahweh your God, as you have done to this day.
“For Yahweh has driven great and strong nations out from before you. But as for you, no man has stood before you to this day.
One man of you shall chase a thousand; for it is Yahweh your God who fights for you, as he spoke to you.
Take good heed therefore to yourselves, that you love Yahweh your God.
“But if you do at all go back, and hold fast to the remnant of these nations, even these who remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in to them, and they to you;
know for a certainty that Yahweh your God will no longer drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap to you, a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you.
“Behold, today I am going the way of all the earth. You know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which Yahweh your God spoke concerning you. All have happened to you. Not one thing has failed of it.
It shall happen that as all the good things have come on you of which Yahweh your God spoke to you, so Yahweh will bring on you all the evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you,
when you disobey the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them. Then Yahwehs anger will be kindled against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you.”

Judges.
Chapter 2.
Yahwehs angel came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, “I brought you out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to give your fathers. I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
You shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You shall break down their altars. But you have not listened to my voice. Why have you done this?
Therefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’”
When Yahwehs angel spoke these words to all the children of Israel, the people lifted up their voice and wept.
They called the name of that place Bochim, and they sacrificed there to Yahweh.
Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel each went to his inheritance to possess the land.
The people served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of Yahweh that he had worked for Israel.
Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, being one hundred ten years old.
They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath Heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.
After all that generation were gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who didnt know Yahweh, nor the work which he had done for Israel.
The children of Israel did that which was evil in Yahwehs sight, and served the Baals.
They abandoned Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; and they provoked Yahweh to anger.
They abandoned Yahweh, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.
Yahwehs anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.
Wherever they went out, Yahwehs hand was against them for evil, as Yahweh had spoken, and as Yahweh had sworn to them; and they were very distressed.
Yahweh raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.
Yet they didnt listen to their judges; for they prostituted themselves to other gods, and bowed themselves down to them. They quickly turned away from the way in which their fathers walked, obeying Yahwehs commandments. They didnt do so.
When Yahweh raised up judges for them, then Yahweh was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it grieved Yahweh because of their groaning by reason of those who oppressed them and troubled them.
But when the judge was dead, they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers in following other gods to serve them and to bow down to them. They didnt cease what they were doing, or give up their stubborn ways.
Yahwehs anger burned against Israel; and he said, “Because this nation transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to my voice,
I also will no longer drive out any of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them;
that by them I may test Israel, to see if they will keep Yahwehs way to walk therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.”
So Yahweh left those nations, without driving them out hastily. He didnt deliver them into Joshuas hand.

Judges.
Chapter 13.
The children of Israel again did that which was evil in Yahwehs sight; and Yahweh delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.
There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and childless.
Yahwehs angel appeared to the woman, and said to her, “See now, you are barren and childless; but you shall conceive and bear a son.
Now therefore please beware and drink no wine nor strong drink, and dont eat any unclean thing;
for, behold, you shall conceive and give birth to a son. No razor shall come on his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb. He shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”
Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, “A man of God came to me, and his face was like the face of the angel of God, very awesome. I didnt ask him where he was from, neither did he tell me his name;
but he said to me, Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink. Dont eat any unclean thing, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.’”
Then Manoah entreated Yahweh, and said, “Oh, Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent come again to us, and teach us what we should do to the child who shall be born.”
God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field; but Manoah, her husband, wasnt with her.
The woman hurried and ran, and told her husband, saying to him, “Behold, the man who came to me that day has appeared to me.”
Manoah arose and followed his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to my wife?” He said, “I am.”
Manoah said, “Now let your words happen. What shall the childs way of life and mission be?”
Yahwehs angel said to Manoah, “Of all that I said to the woman let her beware.
She may not eat of anything that comes of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing. Let her observe all that I commanded her.”
Manoah said to Yahwehs angel, “Please stay with us, that we may make a young goat ready for you.”
Yahwehs angel said to Manoah, “Though you detain me, I wont eat your bread. If you will prepare a burnt offering, you must offer it to Yahweh.” For Manoah didnt know that he was Yahwehs angel.
Manoah said to Yahwehs angel, “What is your name, that when your words happen, we may honor you?”
Yahwehs angel said to him, “Why do you ask about my name, since it is incomprehensible?”
So Manoah took the young goat with the meal offering, and offered it on the rock to Yahweh. Then the angel did an amazing thing as Manoah and his wife watched.
For when the flame went up toward the sky from off the altar, Yahwehs angel ascended in the flame of the altar. Manoah and his wife watched; and they fell on their faces to the ground.
But Yahwehs angel didnt appear to Manoah or to his wife any more. Then Manoah knew that he was Yahwehs angel.
Manoah said to his wife, “We shall surely die, because we have seen God.”
But his wife said to him, “If Yahweh were pleased to kill us, he wouldnt have received a burnt offering and a meal offering at our hand, and he wouldnt have shown us all these things, nor would he have told us such things as these at this time.”
The woman bore a son and named him Samson. The child grew, and Yahweh blessed him.
Yahwehs Spirit began to move him in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

1 Samuel.
Chapter 3.
The child Samuel ministered to Yahweh before Eli. Yahwehs word was rare in those days. There were not many visions, then.
At that time, when Eli was laid down in his place (now his eyes had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see),
and Gods lamp hadnt yet gone out, and Samuel had laid down in Yahwehs temple where Gods ark was,
Yahweh called Samuel. He said, “Here I am.”
He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” He said, “I didnt call. Lie down again.” He went and lay down.
Yahweh called yet again, “Samuel!” Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” He answered, “I didnt call, my son. Lie down again.”
Now Samuel didnt yet know Yahweh, neither was Yahwehs word yet revealed to him.
Yahweh called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” Eli perceived that Yahweh had called the child.
Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down. It shall be, if he calls you, that you shall say, Speak, Yahweh; for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
Yahweh came, and stood, and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak; for your servant hears.”
Yahweh said to Samuel, “Behold, I will do a thing in Israel at which both the ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.
In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end.
For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves, and he didnt restrain them.
Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Elis house shall not be removed with sacrifice or offering forever.”
Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of Yahwehs house. Samuel was afraid to show Eli the vision.
Then Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son!” He said, “Here I am.”
He said, “What is the thing that he has spoken to you? Please dont hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he spoke to you.”
Samuel told him every bit, and hid nothing from him. He said, “It is Yahweh. Let him do what seems good to him.”
Samuel grew, and Yahweh was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.
All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Yahweh.
Yahweh appeared again in Shiloh; for Yahweh revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by Yahwehs word.

1 Samuel.
Chapter 12.
Samuel said to all Israel, “Behold, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you.
Now, behold, the king walks before you. I am old and gray-headed. Behold, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my youth to this day.
Here I am. Witness against me before Yahweh and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Of whose hand have I taken a bribe to make me blind my eyes? I will restore it to you.”
They said, “You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything from anyones hand.”
He said to them, “Yahweh is witness against you, and his anointed is witness today, that you have not found anything in my hand.” They said, “He is witness.”
Samuel said to the people, “It is Yahweh who appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Yahweh concerning all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he did to you and to your fathers.
“When Jacob had come into Egypt, and your fathers cried to Yahweh, then Yahweh sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place.
But they forgot Yahweh their God; and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them.
They cried to Yahweh, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Yahweh and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth; but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve you.
Yahweh sent Jerubbaal, Bedan, Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and you lived in safety.
“When you saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, you said to me, No, but a king shall reign over us, when Yahweh your God was your king.
Now therefore see the king whom you have chosen and whom you have asked for. Behold, Yahweh has set a king over you.
If you will fear Yahweh, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of Yahweh, then both you and also the king who reigns over you are followers of Yahweh your God.
But if you will not listen to Yahwehs voice, but rebel against the commandment of Yahweh, then Yahwehs hand will be against you, as it was against your fathers.
“Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Yahweh will do before your eyes.
Isnt it wheat harvest today? I will call to Yahweh, that he may send thunder and rain; and you will know and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in Yahwehs sight, in asking for a king.”
So Samuel called to Yahweh, and Yahweh sent thunder and rain that day. Then all the people greatly feared Yahweh and Samuel.
All the people said to Samuel, “Pray for your servants to Yahweh your God, that we not die; for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for a king.”
Samuel said to the people, “Dont be afraid. You have indeed done all this evil; yet dont turn away from following Yahweh, but serve Yahweh with all your heart.
Dont turn away to go after vain things which cant profit or deliver, for they are vain.
For Yahweh will not forsake his people for his great names sake, because it has pleased Yahweh to make you a people for himself.
Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Yahweh in ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and the right way.
Only fear Yahweh, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.
But if you keep doing evil, you will be consumed, both you and your king.”

2 Samuel.
Chapter 6.
David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.
David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah, to bring up from there Gods ark, which is called by the Name, even the name of Yahweh of Armies who sits above the cherubim.
They set Gods ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadabs house that was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.
They brought it out of Abinadabs house which was in the hill, with Gods ark; and Ahio went before the ark.
David and all the house of Israel played before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with castanets, and with cymbals.
When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached for Gods ark and took hold of it, for the cattle stumbled.
Yahwehs anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by Gods ark.
David was displeased because Yahweh had broken out against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez Uzzah to this day.
David was afraid of Yahweh that day; and he said, “How could Yahwehs ark come to me?”
So David would not move Yahwehs ark to be with him in Davids city; but David carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittites house.
Yahwehs ark remained in Obed-Edom the Gittites house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and all his house.
King David was told, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that belongs to him, because of Gods ark.” So David went and brought up Gods ark from the house of Obed-Edom into Davids city with joy.
When those who bore Yahwehs ark had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.
David danced before Yahweh with all his might; and David was clothed in a linen ephod.
So David and all the house of Israel brought up Yahwehs ark with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.
As Yahwehs ark came into Davids city, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out through the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before Yahweh; and she despised him in her heart.
They brought in Yahwehs ark, and set it in its place in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.
When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Armies.
He gave to all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to everyone a portion of bread, dates, and raisins. So all the people departed, each to his own house.
Then David returned to bless his household. Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious the king of Israel was today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants maids, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”
David said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me above your father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of Yahweh, over Israel. Therefore I will celebrate before Yahweh.
I will be yet more undignified than this, and will be worthless in my own sight. But the maids of whom you have spoken will honor me.”
Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.

2 Kings.
Chapter 17.
In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel for nine years.
He did that which was evil in Yahwehs sight, yet not as the kings of Israel who were before him.
Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against him; and Hoshea became his servant, and brought him tribute.
The king of Assyria discovered a conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria seized him, and bound him in prison.
Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.
In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
It was so because the children of Israel had sinned against Yahweh their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
and walked in the statutes of the nations whom Yahweh cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made.
The children of Israel secretly did things that were not right against Yahweh their God; and they built high places for themselves in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city;
and they set up for themselves pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree;
and there they burned incense in all the high places, as the nations whom Yahweh carried away before them did; and they did wicked things to provoke Yahweh to anger;
and they served idols, of which Yahweh had said to them, “You shall not do this thing.”
Yet Yahweh testified to Israel and to Judah, by every prophet and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”
Notwithstanding, they would not listen, but hardened their neck like the neck of their fathers who didnt believe in Yahweh their God.
They rejected his statutes and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom Yahweh had commanded them that they should not do like them.
They abandoned all the commandments of Yahweh their God, and made molten images for themselves, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served Baal.
They caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in Yahwehs sight, to provoke him to anger.
Therefore Yahweh was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight. There was none left but the tribe of Judah only.
Also Judah didnt keep the commandments of Yahweh their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.
Yahweh rejected all the offspring of Israel, afflicted them, and delivered them into the hands of raiders, until he had cast them out of his sight.
For he tore Israel from Davids house; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king; and Jeroboam drove Israel from following Yahweh, and made them sin a great sin.
The children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they didnt depart from them
until Yahweh removed Israel out of his sight, as he said by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria to this day.
The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, from Cuthah, from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria and lived in its cities.
So it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they didnt fear Yahweh. Therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which killed some of them.
Therefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The nations which you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria dont know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them; and behold, they kill them, because they dont know the law of the god of the land.”
Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, “Carry there one of the priests whom you brought from there; and let him go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land.”
So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh.
However every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities in which they lived.
The men of Babylon made Succoth Benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.
So they feared Yahweh, and also made from among themselves priests of the high places for themselves, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.
They feared Yahweh, and also served their own gods, after the ways of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.
To this day they do what they did before. They dont fear Yahweh, and they do not follow the statutes, or the ordinances, or the law, or the commandment which Yahweh commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;
with whom Yahweh had made a covenant and commanded them, saying, “You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them;
but you shall fear Yahweh, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, and you shall bow yourselves to him, and you shall sacrifice to him.
The statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment which he wrote for you, you shall observe to do forever more. You shall not fear other gods.
You shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods.
But you shall fear Yahweh your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.”
However they didnt listen, but they did what they did before.
So these nations feared Yahweh, and also served their engraved images. Their children did likewise, and so did their childrens children. They do as their fathers did to this day.

1 Chronicles.
Chapter 21.
Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to take a census of Israel.
David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, “Go, count Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know how many there are.”
Joab said, “May Yahweh make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, arent they all my lords servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?”
Nevertheless the kings word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed and went throughout all Israel, then came to Jerusalem.
Joab gave the sum of the census of the people to David. All those of Israel were one million one hundred thousand men who drew a sword; and in Judah were four hundred seventy thousand men who drew a sword.
But he didnt count Levi and Benjamin among them, for the kings word was abominable to Joab.
God was displeased with this thing; therefore he struck Israel.
David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing. But now put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.”
Yahweh spoke to Gad, Davids seer, saying,
“Go and speak to David, saying, Yahweh says, “I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’”
So Gad came to David and said to him, “Yahweh says, Take your choice:
either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you; or else three days of the sword of Yahweh, even pestilence in the land, and Yahwehs angel destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.’”
David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into Yahwehs hand, for his mercies are very great. Dont let me fall into mans hand.”
So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.
God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, Yahweh saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough. Now withdraw your hand.” Yahwehs angel was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
David lifted up his eyes, and saw Yahwehs angel standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
David said to God, “Isnt it I who commanded the people to be counted? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O Yahweh my God, be against me and against my fathers house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”
Then Yahwehs angel commanded Gad to tell David that David should go up and raise an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in Yahwehs name.
Ornan turned back and saw the angel; and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
Then David said to Ornan, “Sell me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar to Yahweh on it. You shall sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”
Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Behold, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.”
King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for Yahweh, nor offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”
So David gave to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.
David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on Yahweh; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.
Then Yahweh commanded the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.
At that time, when David saw that Yahweh had answered him in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
For Yahwehs tabernacle, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
But David couldnt go before it to inquire of God, for he was afraid because of the sword of Yahwehs angel.

1 Chronicles.
Chapter 22.
Then David said, “This is the house of Yahweh God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”
David gave orders to gather together the foreigners who were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to cut dressed stones to build Gods house.
David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates and for the couplings, and bronze in abundance without weight,
and cedar trees without number, for the Sidonians and the people of Tyre brought cedar trees in abundance to David.
David said, “Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for Yahweh must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David prepared abundantly before his death.
Then he called for Solomon his son, and commanded him to build a house for Yahweh, the God of Israel.
David said to Solomon his son, “As for me, it was in my heart to build a house to the name of Yahweh my God.
But Yahwehs word came to me, saying, You have shed blood abundantly and have made great wars. You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.
Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of peace. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.
He shall build a house for my name; and he will be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.
Now, my son, may Yahweh be with you and prosper you, and build the house of Yahweh your God, as he has spoken concerning you.
May Yahweh give you discretion and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel, so that you may keep the law of Yahweh your God.
Then you will prosper, if you observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Yahweh gave Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous. Dont be afraid and dont be dismayed.
Now, behold, in my affliction I have prepared for Yahwehs house one hundred thousand talents of gold, one million talents of silver, and bronze and iron without weight; for it is in abundance. I have also prepared timber and stone; and you may add to them.
There are also workmen with you in abundance—cutters and workers of stone and timber, and all kinds of men who are skillful in every kind of work;
of the gold, the silver, the bronze, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and be doing, and may Yahweh be with you.”
David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,
“Isnt Yahweh your God with you? Hasnt he given you rest on every side? For he has delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand; and the land is subdued before Yahweh and before his people.
Now set your heart and your soul to follow Yahweh your God. Arise therefore, and build the sanctuary of Yahweh God, to bring the ark of Yahwehs covenant and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for Yahwehs name.”

Chapter 3.
A Psalm by David, when he fled from Absalom his son. Yahweh, how my adversaries have increased! Many are those who rise up against me.
Many there are who say of my soul, “There is no help for him in God.” Selah.
But you, Yahweh, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
I cry to Yahweh with my voice, and he answers me out of his holy hill. Selah.
I laid myself down and slept. I awakened, for Yahweh sustains me.
I will not be afraid of tens of thousands of people who have set themselves against me on every side.
Arise, Yahweh! Save me, my God! For you have struck all of my enemies on the cheek bone. You have broken the teeth of the wicked.

Chapter 6.
For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David. Yahweh, dont rebuke me in your anger, neither discipline me in your wrath.
Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am faint. Yahweh, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
My soul is also in great anguish. But you, Yahweh—how long?
Return, Yahweh. Deliver my soul, and save me for your loving kindness sake.
For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks?
I am weary with my groaning. Every night I flood my bed. I drench my couch with my tears.
My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for Yahweh has heard the voice of my weeping.
Yahweh has heard my supplication. Yahweh accepts my prayer.
May all my enemies be ashamed and dismayed. They shall turn back, they shall be disgraced suddenly.

Chapter 11.
For the Chief Musician. By David. In Yahweh, I take refuge. How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?
For, behold, the wicked bend their bows. They set their arrows on the strings, that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.
If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?
Yahweh is in his holy temple. Yahweh is on his throne in heaven. His eyes observe. His eyes examine the children of men.
Yahweh examines the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and him who loves violence.
On the wicked he will rain blazing coals; fire, sulfur, and scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.
For Yahweh is righteous. He loves righteousness. The upright shall see his face.

Chapter 12.
For the Chief Musician; upon an eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm of David. Help, Yahweh; for the godly man ceases. For the faithful fail from among the children of men.
Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart.
May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts,
who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?”
“Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says Yahweh; “I will set him in safety from those who malign him.”
Yahwehs words are flawless words, as silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times.
You will keep them, Yahweh. You will preserve them from this generation forever.
The wicked walk on every side, when what is vile is exalted among the sons of men.

Chapter 28.
By David. To you, Yahweh, I call. My rock, dont be deaf to me, lest, if you are silent to me, I would become like those who go down into the pit.
Hear the voice of my petitions, when I cry to you, when I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.
Dont draw me away with the wicked, with the workers of iniquity who speak peace with their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts.
Give them according to their work, and according to the wickedness of their doings. Give them according to the operation of their hands. Bring back on them what they deserve.
Because they dont respect the works of Yahweh, nor the operation of his hands, he will break them down and not build them up.
Blessed be Yahweh, because he has heard the voice of my petitions.
Yahweh is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him.

Yahwehs voice is on the waters. The God of glory thunders, even Yahweh on many waters.

Chapter 30.
A Psalm. A Song for the Dedication of the Temple. By David. I will extol you, Yahweh, for you have raised me up, and have not made my foes to rejoice over me.
Yahweh my God, I cried to you, and you have healed me.
Yahweh, you have brought up my soul from Sheol. You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
Sing praise to Yahweh, you saints of his. Give thanks to his holy name.
For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.”
You, Yahweh, when you favored me, made my mountain stand strong; but when you hid your face, I was troubled.
I cried to you, Yahweh. I made supplication to the Lord:
“What profit is there in my destruction, if I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise you? Shall it declare your truth?
Hear, Yahweh, and have mercy on me. Yahweh, be my helper.”
You have turned my mourning into dancing for me. You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness,
to the end that my heart may sing praise to you, and not be silent. Yahweh my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

Chapter 33.
Rejoice in Yahweh, you righteous! Praise is fitting for the upright.
Give thanks to Yahweh with the lyre. Sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings.
Sing to him a new song. Play skillfully with a shout of joy!
For Yahwehs word is right. All his work is done in faithfulness.
He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the loving kindness of Yahweh.
By Yahwehs word, the heavens were made: all their army by the breath of his mouth.
He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deeps in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear Yahweh. Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
For he spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood firm.
Yahweh brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.
The counsel of Yahweh stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.
Yahweh looks from heaven. He sees all the sons of men.
From the place of his habitation he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,
he who fashions all of their hearts; and he considers all of their works.
There is no king saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
A horse is a vain thing for safety, neither does he deliver any by his great power.
Behold, Yahwehs eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his loving kindness,
to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul has waited for Yahweh. He is our help and our shield.
For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
Let your loving kindness be on us, Yahweh, since we have hoped in you.

I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Yahwehs angel encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

Oh fear Yahweh, you his saints, for there is no lack with those who fear him.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger, but those who seek Yahweh shall not lack any good thing.
Come, you children, listen to me. I will teach you the fear of Yahweh.
Who is someone who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good?
Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies.
Depart from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it.
Yahwehs eyes are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry.
Yahwehs face is against those who do evil, to cut off their memory from the earth.
The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.
Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all.
He protects all of his bones. Not one of them is broken.

Why, when I came, was there no one? When I called, why was there no one to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cant redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea. I make the rivers a wilderness. Their fish stink because there is no water, and die of thirst.
I clothe the heavens with blackness. I make sackcloth their covering.”
The Lord Yahweh has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words him who is weary. He awakens morning by morning, he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.
The Lord Yahweh has opened my ear. I was not rebellious. I have not turned back.

For Yahweh says, “Dont enter into the house of mourning. Dont go to lament. Dont bemoan them, for I have taken away my peace from this people,” says Yahweh, “even loving kindness and tender mercies.
Both great and small will die in this land. They will not be buried. Men wont lament for them, cut themselves, or make themselves bald for them.
Men wont break bread for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead. Men wont give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
“You shall not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and to drink.”
For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: “Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.
It will happen, when you tell this people all these words, and they ask you, Why has Yahweh pronounced all this great evil against us? or What is our iniquity? or What is our sin that we have committed against Yahweh our God?
then you shall tell them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, says Yahweh, and have walked after other gods, have served them, have worshiped them, have forsaken me, and have not kept my law.
You have done evil more than your fathers, for behold, you each walk after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that you dont listen to me.
Therefore I will cast you out of this land into the land that you have not known, neither you nor your fathers. There you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.
“Therefore behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that it will no more be said, As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
but, As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the countries where he had driven them. I will bring them again into their land that I gave to their fathers.
“Behold, I will send for many fishermen,” says Yahweh, “and they will fish them up. Afterward I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them from every mountain, from every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks.
For my eyes are on all their ways. They are not hidden from my face. Their iniquity isnt concealed from my eyes.
First I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.”
Yahweh, my strength, my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, and will say, “Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies, vanity and things in which there is no profit.
Should a man make to himself gods which yet are no gods?”
“Therefore behold, I will cause them to know, this once I will cause them to know my hand and my might. Then they will know that my name is Yahweh.”

Chapter 21.
The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying,
“Please inquire of Yahweh for us; for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps Yahweh will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may withdraw from us.”
Then Jeremiah said to them, “Tell Zedekiah:
Yahweh, the God of Israel says, “Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans who besiege you outside the walls; and I will gather them into the middle of this city.
I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation.
I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and animal. They will die of a great pestilence.
Afterward,” says Yahweh, “I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants, and the people, even those who are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life. He will strike them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, have pity, or have mercy.”’
“You shall say to this people, Yahweh says: “Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.
He who remains in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, but he who goes out and passes over to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he will live, and he will escape with his life.
For I have set my face on this city for evil, and not for good,” says Yahweh. “It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire.”’
“Concerning the house of the king of Judah, hear Yahwehs word:
House of David, Yahweh says, Execute justice in the morning, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go out like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, and of the rock of the plain, says Yahweh. You that say, “Who would come down against us?” or, “Who would enter into our homes?”
I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, says Yahweh; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it will devour all that is around her.’”

Chapter 23.
“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture!” says Yahweh.
Therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says against the shepherds who feed my people: “You have scattered my flock, driven them away, and have not visited them. Behold, I will visit on you the evil of your doings,” says Yahweh.
“I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they will be fruitful and multiply.
I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them. They will no longer be afraid or dismayed, neither will any be lacking,” says Yahweh.
“Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that I will raise to David a righteous Branch; and he will reign as king and deal wisely, and will execute justice and righteousness in the land.
In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely. This is his name by which he will be called: Yahweh our righteousness.
“Therefore, behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that they will no more say, As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
but, As Yahweh lives, who brought up and who led the offspring of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all the countries where I had driven them. Then they will dwell in their own land.”
Concerning the prophets: My heart within me is broken. All my bones shake. I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine has overcome, because of Yahweh, and because of his holy words.
“For the land is full of adulterers; for because of the curse the land mourns. The pastures of the wilderness have dried up. Their course is evil, and their might is not right;
for both prophet and priest are profane. Yes, in my house I have found their wickedness,” says Yahweh.
Therefore their way will be to them as slippery places in the darkness. They will be driven on, and fall therein; for I will bring evil on them, even the year of their visitation,” says Yahweh.
“I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria. They prophesied by Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.
In the prophets of Jerusalem I have also seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness. They have all become to me as Sodom, and its inhabitants as Gomorrah.”
Therefore Yahweh of Armies says concerning the prophets: “Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink poisoned water; for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone out into all the land.”
Yahweh of Armies says, “Dont listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They teach you vanity. They speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of Yahweh.
They say continually to those who despise me, Yahweh has said, “You will have peace;”’ and to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil will come on you.
For who has stood in the council of Yahweh, that he should perceive and hear his word? Who has listened to my word, and heard it?
Behold, Yahwehs storm, his wrath, has gone out. Yes, a whirling storm! It will burst on the head of the wicked.
Yahwehs anger will not return until he has executed and performed the intents of his heart. In the latter days, you will understand it perfectly.
I didnt send these prophets, yet they ran. I didnt speak to them, yet they prophesied.
But if they had stood in my council, then they would have caused my people to hear my words, and would have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
“Am I a God at hand,” says Yahweh, “and not a God afar off?
Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I cant see him?” says Yahweh. “Dont I fill heaven and earth?” says Yahweh.
“I have heard what the prophets have said, who prophesy lies in my name, saying, I had a dream! I had a dream!
How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart?
They intend to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they each tell his neighbor, as their fathers forgot my name because of Baal.
The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat?” says Yahweh.
“Isnt my word like fire?” says Yahweh; “and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
“Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” says Yahweh, “who each steal my words from his neighbor.
Behold, I am against the prophets,” says Yahweh, “who use their tongues, and say, He says.
Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams,” says Yahweh, “who tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their vain boasting; yet I didnt send them or command them. They dont profit this people at all,” says Yahweh.
“When this people, or the prophet, or a priest, asks you, saying, What is the message from Yahweh? Then you shall tell them, “What message? I will cast you off,” says Yahweh.
As for the prophet, the priest, and the people, who say, The message from Yahweh, I will even punish that man and his household.
You will say everyone to his neighbor, and everyone to his brother, What has Yahweh answered? and, What has Yahweh said?
You will mention the message from Yahweh no more, for every mans own word has become his message; for you have perverted the words of the living God, of Yahweh of Armies, our God.
You will say to the prophet, What has Yahweh answered you? and, What has Yahweh spoken?
Although you say, The message from Yahweh, therefore Yahweh says: Because you say this word, “The message from Yahweh,” and I have sent to you, telling you not to say, “The message from Yahweh,”
therefore behold, I will utterly forget you, and I will cast you off with the city that I gave to you and to your fathers, away from my presence.
I will bring an everlasting reproach on you, and a perpetual shame, which will not be forgotten.’”

Jeremiah.
Chapter 24.
Yahweh showed me, and behold, two baskets of figs were set before Yahwehs temple, after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.
One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first-ripe; and the other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
Then Yahweh asked me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” I said, “Figs. The good figs are very good, and the bad are very bad, so bad that they cant be eaten.”
Yahwehs word came to me, saying,
“Yahweh, the God of Israel says: Like these good figs, so I will regard the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, as good.
For I will set my eyes on them for good, and I will bring them again to this land. I will build them, and not pull them down. I will plant them, and not pluck them up.
I will give them a heart to know me, that I am Yahweh. They will be my people, and I will be their God; for they will return to me with their whole heart.
As the bad figs, which cant be eaten, they are so bad, surely Yahweh says, So I will give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the remnant of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt.
I will even give them up to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I will drive them.
I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence among them, until they are consumed from off the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.’”

Chapter 28.
That same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in Yahwehs house, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
“Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.
Within two full years I will bring again into this place all the vessels of Yahwehs house that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon.
I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, who went to Babylon, says Yahweh; for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’”
Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people who stood in Yahwehs house,
even the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May Yahweh do so. May Yahweh perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of Yahwehs house, and all those who are captives, from Babylon to this place.
Nevertheless listen now to this word that I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people:
The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, of evil, and of pestilence.
As for the prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet happens, then the prophet will be known, that Yahweh has truly sent him.”
Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from off the prophet Jeremiahs neck, and broke it.
Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Yahweh says: Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from off the neck of all the nations within two full years.’” Then the prophet Jeremiah went his way.
Then Yahwehs word came to Jeremiah, after Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
“Go, and tell Hananiah, saying, Yahweh says, “You have broken the bars of wood, but you have made in their place bars of iron.”
For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says, “I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they will serve him. I have also given him the animals of the field.”’”
Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Listen, Hananiah! Yahweh has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie.
Therefore Yahweh says, Behold, I will send you away from off the surface of the earth. This year you will die, because you have spoken rebellion against Yahweh.’”
So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

Chapter 29.
Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon,
(after Jeconiah the king, the queen mother, the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the smiths had departed from Jerusalem),
by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon). It said:
Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon:
“Build houses and dwell in them. Plant gardens and eat their fruit.
Take wives and father sons and daughters. Take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters. Multiply there, and dont be diminished.
Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”
For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: “Dont let your prophets who are among you and your diviners deceive you. Dont listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed.
For they prophesy falsely to you in my name. I have not sent them,” says Yahweh.
For Yahweh says, “After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit you and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.
You shall call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
You shall seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.
I will be found by you,” says Yahweh, “and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have driven you, says Yahweh. I will bring you again to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.”
Because you have said, “Yahweh has raised us up prophets in Babylon,”
Yahweh says concerning the king who sits on Davids throne, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your brothers who havent gone with you into captivity,
Yahweh of Armies says: “Behold, I will send on them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like rotten figs that cant be eaten, they are so bad.
I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an object of horror, an astonishment, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,
because they have not listened to my words,” says Yahweh, “with which I sent to them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear,” says Yahweh.
Hear therefore Yahwehs word, all you captives whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.
Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you in my name: “Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he will kill them before your eyes.
A curse will be taken up about them by all the captives of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, Yahweh make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;
because they have done foolish things in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I didnt command them. I am he who knows, and am witness,” says Yahweh.
Concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite you shall speak, saying,
“Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying,
“Yahweh has made you priest in the place of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in Yahwehs house, for every man who is crazy and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in shackles.
Now therefore, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who makes himself a prophet to you,
because he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, The captivity is long. Build houses, and dwell in them. Plant gardens, and eat their fruit?”’”
Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet.
Then Yahwehs word came to Jeremiah, saying,
“Send to all of the captives, saying, Yahweh says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: “Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I didnt send him, and he has caused you to trust in a lie,”
therefore Yahweh says, “Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his offspring. He will not have a man to dwell among this people. He wont see the good that I will do to my people,” says Yahweh, “because he has spoken rebellion against Yahweh.”’”

Chapter 30.
The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,
“Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, Write all the words that I have spoken to you in a book.
For, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will reverse the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, says Yahweh. I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.’”
These are the words that Yahweh spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah.
For Yahweh says: “We have heard a voice of trembling; a voice of fear, and not of peace.
Ask now, and see whether a man travails with child. Why do I see every man with his hands on his waist, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned pale?
Alas, for that day is great, so that none is like it! It is even the time of Jacobs trouble; but he will be saved out of it.
It will come to pass in that day, says Yahweh of Armies, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds. Strangers will no more make them their bondservants;
but they will serve Yahweh their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up to them.
Therefore dont be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says Yahweh. Dont be dismayed, Israel. For, behold, I will save you from afar, and save your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return, and will be quiet and at ease. No one will make him afraid.
For I am with you, says Yahweh, to save you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have scattered you, but I will not make a full end of you; but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.”
For Yahweh says, “Your hurt is incurable. Your wound is grievous.
There is no one to plead your cause, that you may be bound up. You have no healing medicines.
All your lovers have forgotten you. They dont seek you. For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins were increased.
Why do you cry over your injury? Your pain is incurable. For the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you.
Therefore all those who devour you will be devoured. All your adversaries, everyone of them, will go into captivity. Those who plunder you will be plunder. I will make all who prey on you become prey.
For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds,” says Yahweh, “because they have called you an outcast, saying, It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.’”
Yahweh says: “Behold, I will reverse the captivity of Jacobs tents, and have compassion on his dwelling places. The city will be built on its own hill, and the palace will be inhabited in its own place.
Thanksgiving will proceed out of them with the voice of those who make merry. I will multiply them, and they will not be few; I will also glorify them, and they will not be small.
Their children also will be as before, and their congregation will be established before me. I will punish all who oppress them.
Their prince will be one of them, and their ruler will proceed from among them. I will cause him to draw near, and he will approach me; for who is he who has had boldness to approach me?” says Yahweh.
“You shall be my people, and I will be your God.
Behold, Yahwehs storm, his wrath, has gone out, a sweeping storm; it will burst on the head of the wicked.
The fierce anger of Yahweh will not return until he has accomplished, and until he has performed the intentions of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it.”

Chapter 31.
“At that time,” says Yahweh, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.”
Yahweh says, “The people who survive the sword found favor in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.”
Yahweh appeared of old to me, saying, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore I have drawn you with loving kindness.
I will build you again, and you will be built, O virgin of Israel. You will again be adorned with your tambourines, and will go out in the dances of those who make merry.
Again you will plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria. The planters will plant, and will enjoy its fruit.
For there will be a day that the watchmen on the hills of Ephraim cry, Arise! Lets go up to Zion to Yahweh our God.’”
For Yahweh says, “Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the chief of the nations. Publish, praise, and say, Yahweh, save your people, the remnant of Israel!
Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, along with the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who travails with child together. They will return as a great company.
They will come with weeping. I will lead them with petitions. I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they wont stumble; for I am a father to Israel. Ephraim is my firstborn.
“Hear Yahwehs word, you nations, and declare it in the distant islands. Say, He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.
For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.
They will come and sing in the height of Zion, and will flow to the goodness of Yahweh, to the grain, to the new wine, to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd. Their soul will be as a watered garden. They will not sorrow any more at all.
Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.
I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people will be satisfied with my goodness,” says Yahweh.
Yahweh says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children. She refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.”
Yahweh says: “Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded,” says Yahweh. “They will come again from the land of the enemy.
There is hope for your latter end,” says Yahweh. “Your children will come again to their own territory.
“I have surely heard Ephraim grieving thus, You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as an untrained calf. Turn me, and I will be turned, for you are Yahweh my God.
Surely after that I was turned. I repented. After that I was instructed. I struck my thigh. I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.
Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I still earnestly remember him. Therefore my heart yearns for him. I will surely have mercy on him,” says Yahweh.
“Set up road signs. Make guideposts. Set your heart toward the highway, even the way by which you went. Turn again, virgin of Israel. Turn again to these your cities.
How long will you go here and there, you backsliding daughter? For Yahweh has created a new thing in the earth: a woman will encompass a man.”
Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Yet again they will use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I reverse their captivity: Yahweh bless you, habitation of righteousness, mountain of holiness.
Judah and all its cities will dwell therein together, the farmers, and those who go about with flocks.
For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.”
On this I awakened, and saw; and my sleep was sweet to me.
“Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and with the seed of animal.
It will happen that, like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to overthrow and to destroy and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant,” says Yahweh.
“In those days they will say no more, “The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the childrens teeth are set on edge.
But everyone will die for his own iniquity. Every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth will be set on edge.
“Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah,
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, which covenant of mine they broke, although I was a husband to them,” says Yahweh.
“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says Yahweh: “I will put my law in their inward parts, and I will write it in their heart. I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
They will no longer each teach his neighbor, and every man teach his brother, saying, Know Yahweh; for they will all know me, from their least to their greatest,” says Yahweh, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
Yahweh, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea, so that its waves roar— Yahweh of Armies is his name, says:
“If these ordinances depart from before me,” says Yahweh, “then the offspring of Israel also will cease from being a nation before me forever.”
Yahweh says: “If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then I will also cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done,” says Yahweh.
“Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that the city will be built to Yahweh from the tower of Hananel to the gate of the corner.
The measuring line will go out further straight onward to the hill Gareb, and will turn toward Goah.
The whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields to the brook Kidron, to the corner of the horse gate toward the east, will be holy to Yahweh. It will not be plucked up or thrown down any more forever.”

Jeremiah.
Chapter 42.
Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, came near,
and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please let our supplication be presented before you, and pray for us to Yahweh your God, even for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes see us,
that Yahweh your God may show us the way in which we should walk, and the things that we should do.”
Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to Yahweh your God according to your words; and it will happen that whatever thing Yahweh answers you, I will declare it to you. I will keep nothing back from you.”
Then they said to Jeremiah, “May Yahweh be a true and faithful witness among us, if we dont do according to all the word with which Yahweh your God sends you to tell us.
Whether it is good, or whether it is bad, we will obey the voice of Yahweh our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of Yahweh our God.”
After ten days, Yahwehs word came to Jeremiah.
Then he called Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
and said to them, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him, says:
If you will still live in this land, then I will build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I grieve over the distress that I have brought on you.
Dont be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid. Dont be afraid of him, says Yahweh, for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you, and cause you to return to your own land.
But if you say, “We will not dwell in this land,” so that you dont obey Yahweh your Gods voice,
saying, “No, but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we will see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there we will dwell;”’
now therefore hear Yahwehs word, O remnant of Judah! Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, If you indeed set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to live there,
then it will happen that the sword, which you fear, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are afraid, will follow close behind you there in Egypt; and you will die there.
So will it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there. They will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. None of them will remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them.
For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: As my anger and my wrath has been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you, when you enter into Egypt; and you will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach; and you will see this place no more.
“Yahweh has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah, Dont go into Egypt! Know certainly that I have testified to you today.
For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to Yahweh your God, saying, Pray for us to Yahweh our God; and according to all that Yahweh our God says, so declare to us, and we will do it.
I have declared it to you today; but you have not obeyed Yahweh your Gods voice in anything for which he has sent me to you.
Now therefore know certainly that you will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence in the place where you desire to go to live.”

Jeremiah.
Chapter 45.
The message that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch the son of Neriah, when he wrote these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,
“Yahweh, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch:
You said, “Woe is me now! For Yahweh has added sorrow to my pain! I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.”’
“You shall tell him, Yahweh says: Behold, that which I have built, I will break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up; and this in the whole land.
Do you seek great things for yourself? Dont seek them; for, behold, I will bring evil on all flesh, says Yahweh, but I will let you escape with your life wherever you go.’”

Chapter 47.
Yahwehs word that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.
Yahweh says: “Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and will become an overflowing stream, and will overflow the land and all that is therein, the city and those who dwell therein. The men will cry, and all the inhabitants of the land will wail.
At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers dont look back for their children because their hands are so feeble,
because of the day that comes to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains; for Yahweh will destroy the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphtor.
Baldness has come on Gaza; Ashkelon is brought to nothing. You remnant of their valley, how long will you cut yourself?
You sword of Yahweh, how long will it be before you are quiet? Put yourself back into your scabbard; rest, and be still.
“How can you be quiet, since Yahweh has given you a command? Against Ashkelon, and against the seashore, there he has appointed it.”

Ezekiel.
Chapter 25.
Yahwehs word came to me, saying,
“Son of man, set your face toward the children of Ammon, and prophesy against them.
Tell the children of Ammon, Hear the word of the Lord Yahweh! The Lord Yahweh says, “Because you said, Aha! against my sanctuary when it was profaned, and against the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and against the house of Judah when they went into captivity,
therefore, behold, I will deliver you to the children of the east for a possession. They will set their encampments in you and make their dwellings in you. They will eat your fruit and they will drink your milk.
I will make Rabbah a stable for camels and the children of Ammon a resting place for flocks. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”
For the Lord Yahweh says: “Because you have clapped your hands, stamped with the feet, and rejoiced with all the contempt of your soul against the land of Israel,
therefore, behold, I have stretched out my hand on you, and will deliver you for a plunder to the nations. I will cut you off from the peoples, and I will cause you to perish out of the countries. I will destroy you. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”
The Lord Yahweh says: “Because Moab and Seir say, Behold, the house of Judah is like all the nations,
therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on its frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kiriathaim,
to the children of the east, to go against the children of Ammon; and I will give them for a possession, that the children of Ammon may not be remembered among the nations.
I will execute judgments on Moab. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.”
The Lord Yahweh says: “Because Edom has dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and taken revenge on them,”
therefore the Lord Yahweh says, “I will stretch out my hand on Edom, and will cut off man and animal from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman. They will fall by the sword even to Dedan.
I will lay my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel. They will do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath. Then they will know my vengeance,” says the Lord Yahweh.
The Lord Yahweh says: “Because the Philistines have taken revenge, and have taken vengeance with contempt of soul to destroy with perpetual hostility,”
therefore the Lord Yahweh says, “Behold, I will stretch out my hand on the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast.
I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes. Then they will know that I am Yahweh, when I lay my vengeance on them.”’”

Moreover Yahwehs word came to me, saying,
“Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against it,
and tell it, The Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you. I will make you a desolation and an astonishment.
I will lay your cities waste, and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.
“Because you have had a perpetual hostility, and have given over the children of Israel to the power of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time of the iniquity of the end,
therefore, as I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “I will prepare you for blood, and blood will pursue you. Since you have not hated blood, therefore blood will pursue you.
Thus I will make Mount Seir an astonishment and a desolation. I will cut off from it him who passes through and him who returns.
I will fill its mountains with its slain. The slain with the sword will fall in your hills and in your valleys and in all your watercourses.
I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.
“Because you have said, These two nations and these two countries will be mine, and we will possess it, although Yahweh was there,
therefore, as I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “I will do according to your anger, and according to your envy which you have shown out of your hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them when I judge you.
You will know that I, Yahweh, have heard all your insults which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They have been laid desolate. They have been given to us to devour.
You have magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and have multiplied your words against me. I have heard it.”
The Lord Yahweh says: “When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate.
As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it was desolate, so I will do to you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.’”

The Book of Amos.
Chapter 1.
The words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
He said: “Yahweh will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the pastures of the shepherds will mourn, and the top of Carmel will wither.”
Yahweh says: “For three transgressions of Damascus, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron;
but I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it will devour the palaces of Ben Hadad.
I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the valley of Aven, and him who holds the scepter from the house of Eden; and the people of Syria shall go into captivity to Kir,” says Yahweh.
Yahweh says: “For three transgressions of Gaza, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they carried away captive the whole community, to deliver them up to Edom;
but I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, and it will devour its palaces.
I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon; and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines will perish,” says the Lord Yahweh.
Yahweh says: “For three transgressions of Tyre, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they delivered up the whole community to Edom, and didnt remember the brotherly covenant;
but I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, and it will devour its palaces.”
Yahweh says: “For three transgressions of Edom, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and cast off all pity, and his anger raged continually, and he kept his wrath forever;
but I will send a fire on Teman, and it will devour the palaces of Bozrah.”
Yahweh says: “For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they have ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead, that they may enlarge their border.
But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it will devour its palaces, with shouting in the day of battle, with a storm in the day of the whirlwind;
and their king will go into captivity, he and his princes together,” says Yahweh.

Amos.
Chapter 7.
Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me: behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and behold, it was the latter growth after the kings harvest.
When they finished eating the grass of the land, then I said, “Lord Yahweh, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”
Yahweh relented concerning this. “It shall not be,” says Yahweh.
Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me: behold, the Lord Yahweh called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land.
Then I said, “Lord Yahweh, stop, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”
Yahweh relented concerning this. “This also shall not be,” says the Lord Yahweh.
Thus he showed me: behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.
Yahweh said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Behold, I will set a plumb line in the middle of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.
The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”
Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.
For Amos says, Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”
Amaziah also said to Amos, “You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there,
but dont prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the kings sanctuary, and it is a royal house!”
Then Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet, neither was I a prophets son, but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs;
and Yahweh took me from following the flock, and Yahweh said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel.
Now therefore listen to Yahwehs word: You say, Dont prophesy against Israel, and dont preach against the house of Isaac.
Therefore Yahweh says: Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”

The Book of Nahum.
Chapter 1.
A revelation about Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
Yahweh is a jealous God and avenges. Yahweh avenges and is full of wrath. Yahweh takes vengeance on his adversaries, and he maintains wrath against his enemies.
Yahweh is slow to anger, and great in power, and will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. Yahweh has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel languish. The flower of Lebanon languishes.
The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, yes, the world, and all who dwell in it.
Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken apart by him.
Yahweh is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who take refuge in him.
But with an overflowing flood, he will make a full end of her place, and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
What do you plot against Yahweh? He will make a full end. Affliction wont rise up the second time.
For entangled like thorns, and drunken as with their drink, they are consumed utterly like dry stubble.
One has gone out of you who devises evil against Yahweh, who counsels wickedness.
Yahweh says: “Though they are in full strength and likewise many, even so they will be cut down and pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more.
Now I will break his yoke from off you, and will burst your bonds apart.”
Yahweh has commanded concerning you: “No more descendants will bear your name. Out of the house of your gods, I will cut off the engraved image and the molten image. I will make your grave, for you are vile.”
Behold, on the mountains the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace! Keep your feasts, Judah! Perform your vows, for the wicked one will no more pass through you. He is utterly cut off.

The Book of Zephaniah.
Chapter 1.
Yahwehs word which came to Zephaniah, the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah.
I will utterly sweep away everything from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh.
I will sweep away man and animal. I will sweep away the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and the heaps of rubble with the wicked. I will cut off man from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh.
I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place—the name of the idolatrous and pagan priests,
those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by Yahweh and also swear by Malcam,
those who have turned back from following Yahweh, and those who havent sought Yahweh nor inquired after him.
Be silent at the presence of the Lord Yahweh, for the day of Yahweh is at hand. For Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice. He has consecrated his guests.
It will happen in the day of Yahwehs sacrifice that I will punish the princes, the kings sons, and all those who are clothed with foreign clothing.
In that day, I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their masters house with violence and deceit.
In that day, says Yahweh, there will be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, a wailing from the second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills.
Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the people of Canaan are undone! All those who were loaded with silver are cut off.
It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, “Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil.”
Their wealth will become a plunder, and their houses a desolation. Yes, they will build houses, but wont inhabit them. They will plant vineyards, but wont drink their wine.
The great day of Yahweh is near. It is near and hurries greatly, the voice of the day of Yahweh. The mighty man cries there bitterly.
That day is a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness,
a day of the trumpet and alarm against the fortified cities and against the high battlements.
I will bring such distress on men that they will walk like blind men because they have sinned against Yahweh. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.
Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Yahwehs wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

The Book of Haggai.
Chapter 1.
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, Yahwehs word came by Haggai the prophet, to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,
“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: These people say, The time hasnt yet come, the time for Yahwehs house to be built.’”
Then Yahwehs word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,
“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?
Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: Consider your ways.
You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you dont have enough. You drink, but you arent filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.
“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: Consider your ways.
Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says Yahweh.
“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says Yahweh of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house.
Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.
I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground produces, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.”
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed Yahweh their Gods voice, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Yahweh their God had sent him; and the people feared Yahweh.
Then Haggai, Yahwehs messenger, spoke Yahwehs message to the people, saying, “I am with you,” says Yahweh.
Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of Yahweh of Armies, their God,
in the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

The Book of Zechariah.
Chapter 1.
In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, Yahwehs word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,
“Yahweh was very displeased with your fathers.
Therefore tell them, Yahweh of Armies says: Return to me, says Yahweh of Armies, and I will return to you, says Yahweh of Armies.
Dont you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Yahweh of Armies says, Return now from your evil ways and from your evil doings; but they didnt hear nor listen to me, says Yahweh.
Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?
But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didnt they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”
On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, Yahwehs word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,
“I had a vision in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.
Then I asked, My lord, what are these?’” The angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”
The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, “They are the ones Yahweh has sent to go back and forth through the earth.”
They reported to Yahwehs angel who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace.”
Then Yahwehs angel replied, “O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”
Yahweh answered the angel who talked with me with kind and comforting words.
So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, Yahweh of Armies says: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.”
Therefore Yahweh says: “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and a line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”’
“Proclaim further, saying, Yahweh of Armies says: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”’”
I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, four horns.
I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”
Yahweh showed me four craftsmen.
Then I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He said, “These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

He showed me Joshua the high priest standing before Yahwehs angel, and Satan standing at his right hand to be his adversary.

Chapter 7.
In the fourth year of King Darius, Yahwehs word came to Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.
The people of Bethel sent Sharezer and Regem Melech and their men to entreat Yahwehs favor,
and to speak to the priests of the house of Yahweh of Armies and to the prophets, saying, “Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?”
Then the word of Yahweh of Armies came to me, saying,
“Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month for these seventy years, did you at all fast to me, really to me?
When you eat and when you drink, dont you eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves?
Arent these the words which Yahweh proclaimed by the former prophets when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and its cities around her, and the South and the lowland were inhabited?’”
Yahwehs word came to Zechariah, saying,
“Thus has Yahweh of Armies spoken, saying, Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother.
Dont oppress the widow, the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.
But they refused to listen, and turned their backs, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.
Yes, they made their hearts as hard as flint, lest they might hear the law and the words which Yahweh of Armies had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from Yahweh of Armies.
It has come to pass that, as he called and they refused to listen, so they will call and I will not listen,” said Yahweh of Armies;
“but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned; for they made the pleasant land desolate.”

Chapter 8.
The word of Yahweh of Armies came to me.
Yahweh of Armies says: “I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath.”
Yahweh says: “I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the middle of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called The City of Truth; and the mountain of Yahweh of Armies, The Holy Mountain.’”
Yahweh of Armies says: “Old men and old women will again dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his hand because of their old age.
The streets of the city will be full of boys and girls playing in its streets.”
Yahweh of Armies says: “If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?” says Yahweh of Armies.
Yahweh of Armies says: “Behold, I will save my people from the east country and from the west country.
I will bring them, and they will dwell within Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.”
Yahweh of Armies says: “Let your hands be strong, you who hear in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets who were in the day that the foundation of the house of Yahweh of Armies was laid, even the temple, that it might be built.
For before those days there was no wages for man nor any wages for an animal, neither was there any peace to him who went out or came in, because of the adversary. For I set all men everyone against his neighbor.
But now I will not be to the remnant of this people as in the former days,” says Yahweh of Armies.
“For the seed of peace and the vine will yield its fruit, and the ground will give its increase, and the heavens will give their dew. I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things.
It shall come to pass that, as you were a curse among the nations, house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Dont be afraid. Let your hands be strong.”
For Yahweh of Armies says: “As I thought to do evil to you when your fathers provoked me to wrath,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and I didnt repent,
so again I have thought in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Dont be afraid.
These are the things that you shall do: speak every man the truth with his neighbor. Execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates,
and let none of you devise evil in your hearts against his neighbor, and love no false oath; for all these are things that I hate,” says Yahweh.
The word of Yahweh of Armies came to me.
Yahweh of Armies says: “The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh, and tenth months shall be for the house of Judah joy, gladness, and cheerful feasts. Therefore love truth and peace.”
Yahweh of Armies says: “Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come.
The inhabitants of one will go to another, saying, Lets go speedily to entreat the favor of Yahweh, and to seek Yahweh of Armies. I will go also.
Yes, many peoples and strong nations will come to seek Yahweh of Armies in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of Yahweh.”
Yahweh of Armies says: “In those days, ten men out of all the languages of the nations will take hold of the skirt of him who is a Jew, saying, We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”

“I have loved you,” says Yahweh. Yet you say, “How have you loved us?” “Wasnt Esau Jacobs brother?” says Yahweh, “Yet I loved Jacob;
but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.”
Whereas Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places,” Yahweh of Armies says, “They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them The Wicked Land, even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.”
Your eyes will see, and you will say, “Yahweh is great—even beyond the border of Israel!”
“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says Yahweh of Armies to you priests who despise my name. “You say, How have we despised your name?
You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, How have we polluted you? In that you say, Yahwehs table is contemptible.
When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isnt that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isnt that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?” says Yahweh of Armies.
“Now, please entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?” says Yahweh of Armies.
“Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
For from the rising of the sun even to its going down, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations,” says Yahweh of Armies.
“But you profane it when you say, Yahwehs table is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.
You say also, Behold, what a weariness it is! And you have sniffed at it”, says Yahweh of Armies; “and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?” says Yahweh.
“But the deceiver is cursed who has in his flock a male, and vows and sacrifices to the Lord a defective thing; for I am a great King,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and my name is awesome among the nations.”

No plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth. There was not a man to till the ground,
but a mist went up from the earth, and watered the whole surface of the ground.
Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Yahweh God planted a garden eastward, in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed.
Out of the ground Yahweh God made every tree to grow that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food, including the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

A river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it was parted, and became the source of four rivers.
The name of the first is Pishon: it flows through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
and the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and onyx stone are also there.
The name of the second river is Gihon. It is the same river that flows through the whole land of Cush.
The name of the third river is Hiddekel. This is the one which flows in front of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
Yahweh God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.

but you shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”
Yahweh God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him.”
Out of the ground Yahweh God formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called every living creature became its name.

The man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field; but for man there was not found a helper comparable to him.
Yahweh God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. As the man slept, he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.

Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh.
The man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.

Chapter 3.
Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?”
Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?”
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden,
but not the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, You shall not eat of it. You shall not touch it, lest you die.’”
The serpent said to the woman, “You wont really die,
for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate. Then she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.
Their eyes were opened, and they both knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made coverings for themselves.
They heard Yahweh Gods voice walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.

They heard the LORD Gods voice walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
The LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”
The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; so I hid myself.”
God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
Yahweh God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Yahweh God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
The LORD God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.”
To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. You will bear children in pain. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wifes voice, and have eaten from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life.
It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.
You will eat bread by the sweat of your face until you return to the ground, for you were taken out of it. For you are dust, and you shall return to dust.”
The man called his wife Eve because she would be the mother of all the living.
Yahweh God made garments of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.
Yahweh God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever—”

So he drove out the man; and he placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

After these things Yahwehs word came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Dont be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”
Abram said, “Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?”

Behold, Yahwehs word came to him, saying, “This man will not be your heir, but he who will come out of your own body will be your heir.”
Yahweh brought him outside, and said, “Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” He said to Abram, “So your offspring will be.”
He believed in Yahweh, who credited it to him for righteousness.

The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.

Chapter 16.
Now Sarai, Abrams wife, bore him no children. She had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
Sarai said to Abram, “See now, Yahweh has restrained me from bearing. Please go in to my servant. It may be that I will obtain children by her.” Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.

Sarai, Abrams wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her servant, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband to be his wife.
He went in to Hagar, and she conceived. When she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
Sarai said to Abram, “This wrong is your fault. I gave my servant into your bosom, and when she saw that she had conceived, she despised me. May Yahweh judge between me and you.”

Yahwehs angel said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.”
Yahwehs angel said to her, “I will greatly multiply your offspring, that they will not be counted for multitude.”

The LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, although I am dust and ashes.
